A biotech webdesign process built for feedback, speed & accessibility

A biotech website has to convince investors, reassure patients and attract future colleagues, often all on the same page. That takes more than good taste: it takes a design process where your whole team can look along, react fast and validate every decision before a single line of code is written.

Why biotech companies design with Root Agency

Designed & prototyped in Figma

Every design starts as a wireframe and grows into a clickable prototype in Figma. You experience your future website in the browser, navigating from page to page, instead of scrolling through a flat PDF.

All feedback in one place

Your whole team gets access to the same design and can drop comments right on the pixel they mean. No scattered email threads, no version confusion: one link, one source of truth, all feedback centralised.

Iterate before we build

Changing a Figma design takes minutes. Changing a coded website takes days. We iterate on the design until it’s exactly right, so development starts from a validated blueprint instead of a moving target.

Accessible by design

We apply WCAG guidelines from the very first wireframe: proper contrast, readable typography, clear focus states and layouts that work for everyone, including visitors who rely on assistive technology.

We design, wireframe & prototype in Figma

Every project starts with structure, not colors. We first translate your story, sitemap and content priorities into wireframes: simple, greyscale layouts that let us discuss hierarchy and flow without getting distracted by visuals.

Once the wireframes are approved, our designers build the full visual design in Figma and connect the pages into an interactive prototype. You click through your future website in the browser, on desktop and mobile, exactly as your visitors will experience it.

The result: by the time we start development, there are no surprises left. You’ve already seen, clicked and approved everything.

Collaboration is easy: everyone sees the same design

In a biotech company, a website is never one person’s opinion. Your CEO, CSO, investor relations, HR and sometimes an external communications agency all have a say. We make that easy instead of painful.

Everyone who needs access gets the Figma link. Feedback is pinned directly on the design element it’s about, so “can we make the pipeline section clearer” is a comment on the pipeline section, not line 42 of an email. We centralise all input, resolve conflicting feedback with you and document every decision in one place.

No more chasing approvals across inboxes. One design, one conversation, full alignment.

Fast iterations: change the design, not the code

The most expensive design change is the one made after the website is built. That’s why we do all the exploring, comparing and refining in Figma, where a new layout variant takes minutes instead of development days.

Want to see two versions of your homepage hero side by side? Test a different structure for the science page? Try your secondary brand color on the call-to-actions? We simply duplicate the frame and show you both. You compare, we refine, and nothing needs to be recoded.

Only after you sign off on the prototype do our developers start building. That keeps your project fast, your budget predictable and your website exactly what you approved.

Accessible & WCAG-compliant by design

Biotech websites are visited by patients, caregivers and people of all ages and abilities. Accessibility is not a checkbox we tick at the end: it shapes our design decisions from the first wireframe.

We design with the WCAG guidelines in mind: sufficient color contrast, readable font sizes and line lengths, clear link and focus states, logical heading structures and navigation patterns that work with a keyboard and screen reader alike.

During development we go one step further. Our custom WordPress builds can include accessibility modules that let visitors adjust the website to their own needs, think larger text, higher contrast or reduced motion, helping your website meet WCAG 2.2.

What makes biotech webdesign different

A biotech website has design challenges most agencies never face. Dense science has to become scannable without being dumbed down. Pipeline overviews need to communicate progress and momentum at a glance. And everything has to radiate the scientific credibility that investors and partners expect.

We’ve been designing for biotech, biopharma and life sciences since 2016, so those building blocks are second nature to us: pipeline visualisations, mechanism of action sections, publication and news hubs, leadership pages and careers sections that actually convert.

And because a website never stands alone, we can create your entire brand identity from scratch: logo, color scheme, typography and templates. Combined with our 2D and 3D animations, your science gets the stage it deserves.

One design, three audiences

The hardest part of biotech webdesign? Your website speaks to radically different visitors at the same time. A good design guides each of them to what they need within seconds, without compromising the experience for the others. Here’s how we design for each audience.

Investors scan before they read. We design pipeline overviews that show your programs, indications and phases at a glance, with clear visual progress indicators.

Leadership pages, scientific advisory boards and publication hubs are structured to build credibility fast, and press releases and investor materials are never more than one click away.

The overall look and feel communicates what investors want to sense immediately: scientific rigor, momentum and a team that has its story straight.

Patients and caregivers often arrive at your website in a stressful period of their lives. We design for them with calm layouts, plain language, generous type sizes and accessible color use.

Disease education and clinical trial information gets a clear, findable place, written and structured with empathy. And we design carefully around the line between hope and hype: honest about where your science stands, human in how it’s told.

This is also where our accessibility-first approach matters most: contrast, readability and assistive technology support are designed in, not bolted on.

The scientists and specialists you want to hire are comparing you with big pharma and other startups. Your careers section is your chance to show why your mission is worth their next chapter.

We design careers pages that combine culture, science and open positions in a way that’s easy to scan and easy to apply to. Vacancy pages are designed to be shareable: paste the link on LinkedIn and the right title, description and image appear automatically.

The design makes adding new vacancies simple too, so your HR team can move as fast as your hiring needs.
